Parent Information
This section is for parents who may wish to self refer their child for creative therapy. I offer the therapy during the week but due to school but as you may wish to attend the clinic of a Saturday. Sometimes it can be difficult to know where to turn when you want support for your child. I would do an initial asssessment with the parent/parents first of all before meeting the child. This way as a parent you can then be fully informed about issue such as confidentiality, methods used in the sessions and any questions or concerns you may have.
The use of play in the sessions can be very powerfull to give voice to what the child/young person is experiencing. The use of play can help the child/young person connect to and express what they are feeling. The Counselling can help with everything from anxiety, divorce, bereavment to bullying. It can help children deal with difficult events that may be traumatic and leave a child feeling unsafe and worried. This gives the child a voice and an expression of the world in a safe place and can help them move forward and discover coping strategies in their lives.
Some points to be aware of the child has to be willing to attend the counselling and to engage. I will only work with a child if this is what the child wants and I think it is in the best interest of the child. Confidentailty and contracts will be discussed and agreed upon before work commences. I use an assessment tool to ascertain how many sessions may be needed this is used as a guide. I usually review the sessions with the parent/child after six sessions.
